Class of 2020: Cap and Gown Sessions

COVID came like a wrecking ball and ended Life As They Knew it for the Class of 2020 seniors. No prom. No spring sports seasons. No final concerts or theatre productions.  No traditional graduation ceremonies. No All Night Party. No Senior Skip Day, Senior Breakfast and Grad Walk through their elementary and middle schools.  It was just so hard.  As a mom of a Class of 2020 senior, I grieved hard for my daughter, her friends, and every Class of 2020 senior and their families.

One of the biggest joys I had in the uncertain times leading to graduation was photographing Class of 2020 grads in their cap and gowns.  A generous business owner paid for several seniors to have a complimentary Cap and Gown session.  The seniors who were awarded these sessions were nominated by Newberg High School faculty and staff.  It was a honor to meet these graduates – many who brought their parents – and celebrate their accomplishments with them.  While we were shooting the sessions, the Newberg community celebrated them as well.  People on foot and driving by hollered “Congratulations” and made sure these graduates knew how much we love them.  Other people caught wind of what we were up to and paid it forward, donating a few additional sessions.  We added sessions and images, giving all sorts of cool extras to these kids who deserved all of it. Well done Newberg Nation!  I am so proud to be a part of this community.  Here’s a sampling of some of the Newberg High school graduates, class of 2020.
