Wilson

Oh my gosh Wils…  How is it possible that this post is about your senior portraits?  Pass the Kleenex!!!!  I remember when you started playing water polo in 6th grade.  Baseball had been your life, but you made the switch to the pool and you had a wicked shot. Grant was in the cage, and even though he was a good goalie, he never loved it.  I will never forget the tournament in Washington when you and Grant convinced your coach to let you switch.  You wanted to try goalie and Grant wanted to get back in the field.  You were a natural from the start.  Fast forward a handful of months and you were the starting goalie on the high school water polo team… as a freshman.  You took on that role with maturity and helped lead your team to a state championship with a starting line up packed with freshman.  AND… you made first team All State.  Talk about a made for TV, feel good movie!

But it hasn’t stopped there.  You, and that Fab Five, have continued to get better and better. Each year, another state championships and more accolades.  Last year, as a junior, you won MVP of the entire state of Oregon.  You take it all in with such humility and that adorable little grin of yours.  It’s so admirable.

The state championship game is a mere three days away.  You guys are the heavy favorites to win.  I can’t fathom the amount of pressure you feel as the captain of your team.  But if anyone can handle it with grace and humility, it’s you and that band of brothers.  You’ll take those friendships with you into the rest of the life, long after the score board dims. What a gift….

So back to your senior portraits.  I think the world of you Wils.  I admire your confidence and humility. I love that you chose the front seat during carpool and chatted it up with me while the other boys were on their phones.  I love that we schemed up your senior session and then made your vision a reality. May God bless you as you finish out your senior year.  May He protect you as you join the Marines and fight for our freedom.  Semper Fi! Love you.
